TARA CANYON
Tara Canyon is located in the northwest of Montenegro. It is 149 km long, and up to 1300 meter deep.It is the second deepest canyon in the world, after the Colorado Canyon, which at the same time makes it the deepest and the sharpest river valley in Europe. Compared to the Great Canyon in Colorado, the Tara canyon looks like a primeval forest. Bright green color of deciduous vegetation and dark green color of coniferous forest prevail in the area. The Tara River is fed by streams mostly from the Komovi, Sinjajevine, Durmitor and Ljubišnje mountains, and meets the Piva River in Šćepan Polje, making the Drina River.
On January 17, 1977, the Tara river with its canyon were put on the "Man and Biosphere" list , and on September 4, 1980, as a part of "Durmitor" National Park, pronouncedpart of the „Natural Heritage of UNESCO", meeting three preconditionsat the same time (one was sufficient): geological, hydrological and biological phenomenon.

This is home to a significant number of endemic species of herbs and insects; the canyon itself hides over 80 discovered caves which have yet to be fully discovered. Some of these caves show existence of cultural layers, a proof that prehistorical man lived there.
The clear green water of Tara, which is of A category, drinkable at its entire flow (which is an extreme rarity ), gives to thelandscape of its canyonfreshness, glitter and move in impressive design of the river bed with its cascades, waterfalls, feeders and other natural phenomena that you can find nowhere else.
