National Parks "SUTJESKA" and "DURMITOR", are located close to Foca.

"SUTJESKA" NATIONAL PARK

It was established in 1962 and covers an area of 17.250 ha. It incorporates the Sutjeska river with its canyon, parts of Maglic Mountain (the highest peak in BiH 2.386m), Vucevo Mountain (1862 m) and Zelengora Mountain (2014 m). Apart from its historical value, this region has exceptionally rich and diverse natural treasures ranging from pristine quiet valleys and thick old forests to extreme mountain ranges and crystal clear glacial lakes. Perucica forest, the oldest and one of the last remaining primeval forests in Europe is situated within the park. There are 9 lakes on Zelengora Mountain, each unique in their natural beauty.

"DURMITOR" NATIONAL PARK

The Durmitor National Park, established in 1952, covers an area of 39.000 ha and includes the massif of Durmitor and the Tara Canyon, second deepest canyon in the world. The entire area of the park is impressive and consists of 18 glacial lakes, huge mountain ranges, deep canyons and thick pristine forests. Its flora and fauna are very rich. Many archeological monuments found across the park are reminders about the rich but turbulent history of this region.

It is listed twice with the World Heritage List: in 1977 the River Tara Canyon was listed as UNESCO reserve, and in 1980, Durmitor and river Tara were listed with UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
