Rijeka Tara protiče kroz dvije države Crnu Goru i Bosnu i Hercegovinu. Nastaje ispod planine Komovi južno od Kolašina u Crnoj Gori i sa svoja 144 kilometra najduža je crnogorska rijeka. Poslednja trećinja rijeke Tare protiče i kroz Republiku Srpsku (BIH) i predstavlja prirodnu granicu između dvije države što je ujedno čini i međunarodnom rijekom.
